Incarcerated individuals in African prisons live in harsh conditions. Overcrowding and unhygienic conditions, lack of medical care and food makes people highly vulnerable.
The Ubumi Prisons Initiative works for the rights of incarcerated people in Zambia’s prisons, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable; children and youth, pregnant women, the seriously ill, the mentally ill and the mentally vulnerable.
Ubumi works to limit and mitigate the psychological, physical, social and health consequences of imprisonment.
We focus in particular on the most vulnerable – very young children, young people, pregnant women, the psychologically vulnerable and the seriously ill – but also on education and reintegration. There are many ways to support. We save lives!
