My name is Annet Wafula
I have one single object
the rest was eaten by fire
I have an object that
smeels good, it’s smooth
it’s tasteless
it sounds sad in my ears
It always reminds me
of how hard it was
when I gave birth
to my baby
This is all I have

WHEN THE was lost in the fire
FIRE CAME I have just the baby
and the cotton baby rubber
In July I gave birth
to my sweet son

I hadn’t slept for months
due to complications
He was so small
One week old
When the fire came
I was breastfeeding him
I remember it so well
The fire just came
Suddenly smoke snug into
my house
He was still breastfeeding
I carried him out
To see what was going on
My neighbours house
is already on fire
And so the fire speeds
to my house
I have no time to take
