My sandals
are nice and clean
bright in colour
smooth and gentle
I love these sandals

When I was a young girl
I liked playing skipping rope
It made me strong and healthy

My grandmother used to punish me
because I’d play and not do house chores

I played a lot
jumping, laughing, skipping
with my friend
I didn’t do any
washing, fetching firewood
and I thought my grandmother
maybe hated me
when she punished me
I know now
she wanted to
educate me
to be responsible

And I learned more
when Positive Life Kenya
came and paid for my school
there was no money for it
where would I be
without it
